What is Agile Parenting?
The Agile methodology is a project management approach that involves breaking the project into phases and emphasizes continuous collaboration and improvement. Agile parenting refers to the application of these agile principles to parenting and family life. Parents follow a cycle of planning, executing, and evaluating.
Agile Parenting Manifesto
We are uncovering better ways of intentional parenting by doing it and helping other parents do it.Through this work we have come to value:
Interactions with our children | over | Experiences and activities |
Children’s intentional development | over | Reactionary learning |
Guidance through Parents | over | Outsourced instruction |
Meeting children’s needs | over | Giving children’s wants |
That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more. |
Agile Parenting Principles:
1. Prioritize Meaningful Interactions:
Foster deep and meaningful interactions with our children, valuing heartfelt connections over mere experiences and activities.
2. Focus on Intentional Child Development:
Emphasize intentional development, proactively guiding our children’s growth, rather than relying on reactive learning approaches.
3. Embrace Parental Guidance:
Provide thoughtful and compassionate guidance as parents, valuing our role in shaping our children’s values and character over outsourcing their instruction to others.
4. Responsive to Children’s Needs:
Be attuned to our children’s unique needs, ensuring their well-being and nurturing their spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual requirements, instead of simply fulfilling their fleeting desires.
5. Learn Through Iteration and Adaptation:
Embrace a mindset of continuous learning and adaptation, recognizing that parenting is an evolving journey where we learn from our experiences and adapt our strategies accordingly.
6. Create a Supportive Parenting Community:
Build a supportive community of parents, where knowledge and experiences are shared, fostering a collaborative environment that enriches our collective parenting practices.
7. Practice Mindful Discipleship:
Be mindful and intentional in our interactions with our children, dedicating our full attention to them, nurturing strong bonds and creating lasting memories.
8. Cultivate Resilience and Adaptability:
Equip parents in resilience and adaptability, teaching them how to navigate challenges, learn from failures, and bounce back stronger, preparing them for the complexities of their child’s development journey.
*Through these principles, we commit to agile parenting, fostering a nurturing environment where our children thrive, learn, and flourish.
